Questions and answers
What is Time Valuer?
Time Valuer is an iPhone app that prices time. It turns your pay and your income goals into a value for every hour, minute and second, then shows what purchases and activities cost in time, how much working time is left today and this year, whether to do something yourself or pay someone, and what projects and meetings cost a business.
Who is Time Valuer for?
High performers and professionals with income goals, freelancers and consultants pricing their work, business owners pricing projects and teams, and anyone who wants to manage their time better by seeing what it's worth.
How does Time Valuer work out what my time is worth?
It divides your pay by the hours you work. A $150,000 salary over 2,080 working hours a year (40 hours a week, 52 weeks) is $72.12 an hour, or $1.20 a minute. Time Valuer uses the schedule in your profile, so the number matches the hours you actually work.
How does Time Valuer help me reach an income goal?
Add a margin to what you earn now to set a goal, and Time Valuer breaks it down to the minute. Going from $150,000 to $250,000 sounds huge; it's 80 cents more for every working minute, from $1.20 to $2.00. That gives you a simple test for every decision, and Outlook shows how much of the year is left to close the gap.
What is margin in Time Valuer?
Margin is the percentage you add on top of a base amount to set a goal or a price, like a markup. $150,000 with a 67% margin is about $250,000.
What does Outlook show?
Outlook shows the working time left today, this week, this month and this year, in minutes and in dollars. Today is split into morning, afternoon and evening, the month is a ring of minutes left, and the year is a grid of days. Seeing what's left makes it easier to spend the rest of the day on what matters.
How does Outlook help productivity?
It turns the rest of your day, month and year into a visible, shrinking number of minutes and dollars. That works like a deadline and makes it easier to focus on high-value work.
How do I decide whether to do something myself or pay someone?
Compare what the task costs in your time with what it costs to pay someone. At a $250,000 goal your time is worth about $120 an hour, so four hours of cleaning costs $481 of your time. If a cleaner charges $160, paying keeps $321 of goal time on track, as long as you spend those hours on work or rest that matters to you.
How do I see what a purchase costs in time?
Use Time Price. It divides the price by what an hour of your time is worth. On a $150,000 salary, a $1,200 laptop costs 16 hours 38 minutes of work.
Does the money stopwatch keep running in the background?
Yes. Start it from any profile and it keeps counting while you use other apps.
How can a business use Time Valuer?
